WTF Friday 02/26/2010
Just love this pic; couldn't resist putting it up for another week. Well, I stopped dropping on all the Asian girls. But they keep dropping. I'll give them this, they're persistent. WTF is up with extreme political people- do they watch the news? Are they really this deluded? And I"m talking about both sides, here. In my world, when someone is this much out of touch with reality, they're OFFICIALLY CRAZY! I found out you can order a Dairy Queen Blizzard made with chocolate ice cream....I don't even know where to begin with that one. I've said it before, I'll say it again. SPANDEX HAS A WEIGHT LIMIT. WTF is up with Washington? American's have spoken. They don't want the current health care bill. Give it up and start over. And Ms. Speaker- you are not our parent. This woman actually said that Congress has before passed bills that weren't popular with the people at the time, but became popular later. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. You work for us. WTF is up with wearing camouflage to the grocery store and Wal-Mart? You don't blend into the shelves. They're are no live animals to hunt in Wal-Mart. Well, some of the customer may appear to be animals, but you still can't shoot them. And you certainly wouldn't want to consume them- imagine the fat! Repeat after me- camouflage is for hunting and shooting.... WTF is up Pres. Obama- first, he insults the Supreme Court Justices during the State of the Union address, right to their faces. Next, during a "bi-partisan" summit meeting, he insists that they refer to him as Mr. President (which is fine), but calls them all by their first names (which is not). Why does he get the respect of office and they don't? I guess I'll just start calling him "Your Excellency" and bowing...maybe that will make him happy. And, as always, WTF is up with stupid people......go to the bookstore or library. Read a book. Get an INFORMED opinion. Then open your mouth. You should need a license to talk (just joking....I'm a big fan of that freedom of speech thing)... speaking of, WTF- you can now be fined for "hate crimes" if you insult someone based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. FREEDOM OF SPEECH, even stupid speech, is allowed. Beating someone up because of one of those traits is a hate crime. BUT THIS IS AMERICA....I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT! Add Comment It's been awhile since I mocked the military (or military wives), so I figured I'd better get part two of this series out. Reason 1 why I'm not really a military wife was that I'm not overweight. Here's the link that post, in case you missed it: Part 1 Reason #2: I can keep my pants buttoned. No, I'm not referring to the fact that I'm thin enough I can button my pants. I'm referring to the disgraceful rate of infidelity among military wives. (Again, if you're a nice, non-cheating military wife, SMILE, you're the exception. If you're offended because you're cheating- or have before- well, don't shoot the messenger). I don't have statistics. All I have is my personal observations. For example, during my husband's first deployment, I tried to "make nice" with the other military wives, thinking that would be the proper thing to do. When the very nice girl I had made friends with canceled our dinner plans one night because her boyfriend was coming over, I was slightly worried. When the wife of the head of the division said she had an "open relationship' with her husband, I became more worried. And when my husband came home and told me that XXX (none of the above two, name blocked to protect the guilty) were getting divorced because she had cheated on him, I decided I would just avoid the military wives. There were five people in my husbands very small division. Apparently, two out of the five of us kept our pants on! WooHoo! This story is probably urban legend: But supposedly the the XO's wife of my husband's old boat (and no, I'm not going to say which boat!) was busted for running a prostitution ring. Guess who the prostitutes were? Yep, the wives of the guys on her husband's boat. I've tried finding verification, but can't find a thing. Which either means the story is an urban legend or the navy covered it up really well. It turns out if you live in military housing, and you put a candle in the window (at our base- I've heard its different at others), it means you're open for business. Hmmm.....and people wonder why I don't live on base! Until next time, Jennie, the normal weight, faithful, cynical Navy wife Finally! We're Attacking the Taliban. 02/16/2010
I'm sure you've all heard some version of this joke: A seven-year old Christian girl says to her father, "Even though Osama Bin Laden is Muslim, would it be all right if I sent him a Christmas card?" The father goes, "Of course! But why would you want to?" The little girl replies, "Well, maybe if I send him a Christmas card, he'll realize that if a small Christian girl in the U.S. can find enough love to send him a card, he'll come out and start telling everyone how much he loves them." There were tears in the father's eyes as he hugged his daughter. "Oh, honey, I'm so proud of you. Forgiveness is a good thing." The little girl look perplexed. "But, Dad, you don't get it. When he comes out of hiding, then the Marines can shoot that f*cker!" Okay, that's just a joke, and I've seen multiple versions of it. But it does bring an important point. It's been over 9 years and we can't find one person! We're now moving throughout Afghanistan, and the troops on the ground are reporting that the Taliban are much more disorganized than they first were. Which is a good sign. Plus, we've captured a high-ranking Taliban member. Yes, yes, we've done this multiple times. Remember the first two years after 9/11. I got so tired of hearing that we had arrested yet another "high-ranking member", but still no Bin Laden. The really miraculous thing about this capture is that the media HELPED keep it under wraps for the first eight days (give or take a day). I can't personally verify this, but that is what is being reported. Now, I think this is a good thing. We, as citizens, have a right to know. But we need to give the military a few days reprieve to get info without announcing to our enemies we have one of their members in custody. So, a question for you dear readers: Do you think it is a good thing that the media helped keep this arrest "under wraps"? Yeah, I'm a smoker. I've had my share of people glaring at me for daring to smoke. And I'm a considerate smoker. I go at least 20 feet, and usually more, from other people when I smoke. But there is always one non-smoker who glares at me even though there is no possible way that my smoke is reaching them. Even when we're outside. Even when I'm blowing the smoke in the opposite direction of them. These are probably the same people are the ones who run to the doctor to get antibiotics for the common cold. And use those stupid hand sanitizer "napkins" to wipe off the handles of shopping carts. And stop in the middle of the store to pull out their little bottle of hand sanitizer to rub it on their hands because they touched the shelf. Why does it bother me when people do these things? Not because they're lowering their own immunity. If they want to have no resistance to diseases, hey, that's up to them. What bothers me is that super germs are developing that are resistant to antibiotics. And this will affect me. It's considered one of the top three threats to human kind by the World Health Organization. And now we're pumping antibiotics into the food we eat, adding to the problem. Whether the smoke-glarers and the clean freaks are the same people or not: which is worse: Me smoking and only hurting myself -or- clean freaks who are causing germs that could wipe out humanity? Entrecard Update 02/13/2010
I'll be posting a longer post tomorrow. Sorry that I've been absent a couple of days...life is crazy down here! Please check out the following article: http://cornys-moneypage.blogspot.com/2010/02/apology-to-all-entrecard-members.html AS I SAID IN THE EARLIER POST, THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO THE STORY. However, this time, the same person gave both sides! Entrecard also posted explaining how some people could drop without the widget being present, and have fixed the error that made this possible. p.s. My cynical side would like to point out to the offended parties that jumping all over people that post a link to the article didn't help. The people posting a link to the article were SIMPLY POSTING A LINK TO AN ARTICLE. They didn't write the article. They didn't swear on a Bible that it was true...it was an ARTICLE OF INTEREST. ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN SHOULD MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND IF SOMETHING THEY READ IS TRUE OR FALSE Full respect for this site, which ran an experiment to see who was cheating on making drops. Aka- not really visiting your page. Here's the link to his post and the list of those who "cheat": entrecard-members-get-scammed-by-these. Many of these are claiming they were falsely put on the list.....he's doing another post on that later. I'll also post that. Well, yet another day that I'm glad to live in South Carolina. Hope all of you in the North are enjoying the snow! Record levels of snow. Airports shut down. Washington shut down. At least something good came out of the snow. It's a good thing that we can blame global warming for all sorts of weather- droughts, flooding, snow, etc. Iran is celebrating (protesting) the 31st anniversary of the Islamic anniversary. Their leader, when not sending force in against the crowds, is gloating about how Iran is now a nuclear state. The people protesting have been attacked with batons and pepper spray. Hmmm....if your own people are rioting, shouldn't you be worried about something besides your nuclear program? Riddle of the day: How do you know your political party is in trouble? Answer: A non-existent party is doing better than your party in the polls. Is anyone else a bit amused with the fact that the non-existent "Tea Party" is now ahead of both the Democrats and Republicans in the polls. I knew the average American was annoyed with Washington, but this is ridiculous. I've been joking with my husband about running for Congress under the tea party....though I doubt if a 26-year old cynical, sarcastic red-head would win. Miserable Monday 02/08/2010
Yeah, it's not Friday, but I'm in a particularly sarcastic and spiteful mood today, so I figured I'd throw some "WTF"'s out there....among other things. I don't trust websites that promote being "high tech" or "computer savvy"....and are then down for days on end...more than once. Obviously, they can't figure out their site...why would I trust their opinion about mine? WTF is up with 10% of bloggers using a picture of a cute Asian girl- usually with the head tilted to the side and all with the same haircut- as their badge. Are these all pictures of the actual blogger? And why would I want to visit a blog when someone can't come up with something more creative than a picture of themselves? I don't even bother "dropping" back on those anymore- especially if they're in a provocative position- chest thrust out, hand playing with the top of their shirt. Who celebrates Valentine's day? I'm a wife and even I don't think it's important. In fact, we have a "No Valentine's Day gifts" rule in our house. If I want chocolates or flowers, I CAN go buy them myself...it's not like they only sell them to men. WTF is up with full-page ads that you have to close before you can view the website? Does anyone EVER actually buy anything from those ads? Don't they annoy more people than entice? Why do people leave comments that are simply advertisements for their "get rich quick" schemes? It's not usually a problem on this blog, but I have another one in which I get one at least every other day...I always go delete them. And they leave them on "old" posts...like I won't see them? Do people click on these ads or is it a way to get their link out there? I hate idiots. Of all types. Especially those who ignore actual facts and twist them in order to suit their political/religious views. Okay, I'm done now. Feel free to leave your own rant, complaint, or cynical observations. Justice for All (even terrorists). 02/06/2010
Justice is for everyone. Not just people we like. Not just Americans. Not just people who always follow the law. Part of justice is giving people a trial. It doesn't matter what they did- they get a trial. This goes for terrorists too. Sorry, but I have to say it. It doesn't matter when you stand up when it's easy and say the right thing. It only counts when you stand up and say it when most people don't agree. This is me standing up saying, "The terrorists need to get a trial." First, the civilian idea. This ranks up with stupidest ideas of the year. Civilian trials involve basic rights- like not incriminating yourself, right to a speedy trial, and probably something about not being water-boarded to get information. I'm not saying the water-boarding was wrong, I'm saying that a civilian trial right now would let them off. You don't choose which rules you want to follow- the Constitution isn't multiple choice. The basic rights given in the American justice system apply to EVERYONE, even people who fly airplanes into buildings. That leaves us with a military trial. I have no problem with this. Let's do it. Let's get it over with. Line them up against the wall and shoot them, if that is what the verdict is. But you can't just hold them. Some people say "until the war is over." What war? Which one? The one we haven't declared? Any intelligence they have is now far out of date. There is no reason to keep them locked up without a trial any longer. Each day that we continue to pontificate and deny a basic human right to the terrorists, we are adding a brick to a gigantic monument. Not one that remembers those that died, or one that remembers 9/11. One that spells out in letters large enough to read from space, "Maybe they were right about us." American Arrogance? Religious Mania? 02/04/2010
10 Americans are charged with kidnapping Haitian children. The Americans are Baptists, mostly from Idaho. Some of the Haitian parents are saying that they voluntarily gave up the children when the 10 Americans promised that they would have a better life. However, the Americans told the parents that they would be in the Dominican Republican getting a better education. And that the parents would be able to contact them. It turns out that the Baptists were planning on adopting out the children from the Dominican Republican to America to "loving Christian parents." There are so many contradictory accounts coming from different sources that it is almost impossible to determine what were the actual intent of the Americans. But what prompts any behavior like this? American arrogance that no place is like America? Religious mania that kidnapping children is all right? (Some of them claim that God told them to it....trust me, God did not tell them to kidnap children). And what really gets me...The White House has released a statement saying "the case remains in Haitian hands, for now." For now? Definition of Government Spend 3.8 Trillion 02/01/2010
3.8 trillion in spending is recommended in Pres. Obama's newly released budget. Of course, it is Congress that has to pass the final version, which will almost certainly include some nice earmarks, but Pres. Obama keeps veto power. Anyway, back to the 3.8 trillion. It's not the 3.8 trillion that really bothers me. It is the fact that 1.3 trillion of that is deficit. Yes, over one third of the budget is MONEY WE DON'T HAVE! How is this responsible spending? Of course, Pres. Obama already said that the "freezes" and "cuts" won't take place until 2012, as we can't afford to cut spending during such a difficult time for our nation. Hell, I love this logic. I'm going to apply it to my household. I'm having a difficult time making much money writing (that damn recession....ha-ha). Instead of cutting spending, we're going to spend more. This will make everyone happy, and we need to do our part to help stop the recession. This is RESPONSIBLE spending. You can loan me the money. I'll pay it back with budget cuts in 2012. I promise. Hmmmm.....no one is throwing money my way and I don't even owe anyone 10 trillion dollars.
